Food Processing Machinery FAQs

What types of food processing machinery are there?

Food processing machinery covers each stage of turning raw ingredients into finished products: preparation such as washing and peeling, size reduction such as cutting, dicing and slicing, mixing and emulsifying, cooking and pasteurising, and coating and frying, before packaging. Proquip Solutions supplies food processing machinery for every stage to New Zealand manufacturers, including Kronen, Ruhle, Quadro, HiTec, Forsfood and YTRON equipment.

How does a potato and root vegetable peeling machine work?

Industrial peelers remove skin from potatoes, carrots, onions and other root vegetables in continuous batches. Abrasive peelers use rough rollers or surfaces to rub the skin off, while knife peelers cut a thin layer away, which gives a smoother finish and less waste on some products. Proquip Solutions supplies Forsfood potato, root vegetable and onion peeling machines and complete peeling lines in New Zealand. See the Forsfood range.

What is an inline homogenizer used for?

An inline homogenizer is fitted into a pipeline so product flows through a high-speed rotor and stator, which breaks down droplets and particles to create smooth, stable emulsions and even textures. It is used for sauces, dressings, mayonnaise, dairy, beverages and other liquid products, and can process continuously rather than batch by batch. Proquip Solutions supplies the YTRON-Z inline homogenizer in New Zealand.

What is pasteurising equipment used for in food processing?

Pasteurising equipment heats packed or unpacked food to a set temperature for a set time to reduce bacteria and extend shelf life, while keeping flavour and texture as close to fresh as possible. Water cookers and pasteurisers are used for ready meals, vegetables, meat products and sauces. Proquip Solutions supplies HiTec water cookers and pasteurisers in New Zealand. See the HiTec range.

Can machines from different brands work together in one production line?

Yes. Most production lines combine machines from several specialist manufacturers, for example a peeler from one, a cutter from another and a packaging machine from a third. The key is matching capacities and connecting the machines with the right conveyors and controls. Proquip Solutions supplies, installs and supports complete production lines, so you deal with one local team rather than several overseas manufacturers.

How do I choose the right food processing machinery?

Start with your product, the finished result you need and your target output. Then consider cleaning and hygiene requirements, changeover between products, floor space, labour, and how each machine fits with the rest of your line. Seeing a machine run with your own product is the most reliable test, and trials can be arranged at our Wiri workshop in Auckland.

Are there budget-friendly options for food processing machinery?

Yes. Alongside our main range, we offer economy machines that aren't listed on the website, as well as used equipment, rentals and finance options to spread the cost. Tell us about your product, output and budget, and we'll recommend the options that suit your situation.
